Staycation at The CURRENT Hotel Tampa
Do you ever staycation? It’s one of my favorite things to do in every city we have lived in, including my hometown of Tampa Bay! It’s the feeling of vacation- relaxing and fun, but just a short drive home. The perfect quick getaway! I also love checking out new hotels and resorts in our area! Last weekend we had the pleasure of visiting The CURRENT Hotel a brand new boutique hotel that just opened in Tampa that’s part of the Autograph Collection by Marriott. Let me tell you from the second we pulled up, we were blown away by the decor, ambiance and the service! The hotel is modern but still feels inviting and let me tell you, there are photo ops everywhere! The CURRENT hotel also houses a lot of local Tampa Bay artists’ work. There are pieces displayed throughout the lobby and on every floor right off the elevator. My artist husband really loved this!
We quickly changed and headed up to the rooftop bar Rox which has both indoor and outdoor seating with views all the way around!! This is such a great option since Florida weather is so unpredictable! This is also nice if it’s too hot/cold out but you still want to enjoy the view. We got lucky and the temps finally dropped last week a little so it was gorgeous out! We ordered a couple of specialty cocktails which were delicious, found a cozy spot on a lounge and watched the sunset over the water. THIS is how you do Fall in Florida. I also found out this is Tampa Bay’s tallest rooftop bar! You don’t have to be a guest to enjoy it either, it’s open to the public:)
After the sun drifted into the sea we headed downstairs to Julian the restaurant on property. Their menu is internationally inspired small plates made with locally sourced foods and this is right up our alley. We love small bites and trying different menu options so were drooling over the options and got to ordering! Our favorites from the menu were the Crispy Blossoms, Bao Mi, and OMG the Cavatelli (hello black truffles)! The Churro dessert was amazing too! We were so excited to try everything and it was so good I forgot to take pics of some items but I was able to get a few! You’ll just have to go see and taste for yourself now;)
Always have to stop for a night cap! We loved this bar- and the cocktails!
We then headed back up to our room for bed. Normally we close up the curtains as tight as we can so no light peeps in when the sun comes up but this time we left the curtains wide open and it was so worth it!! We woke up to the most incredible sunrise coming in through our huge windows!
Living on the west side of Florida I am typically a sunset girl but man these sunrises are pretty amazing too. Especially when you can watch from your bed! And also cuddled up in a robe in the corner to get even closer;)
After enjoying the sun coming up over Tampa Bay we got ready and headed downstairs to find the cutest coffee shop Buddy Brew (another local company!) and they were serving freshly baked pastries! YUM!
While having our lattes and muffins we walked around the lobby checking out the local artwork and browsed through the hotel’s shop which was curated by Tampa’s own Oxford Exchange! We popped into the workout room too- definitely didn’t work out but if I were to this is the place to do it! The gym has the same huge windows looking right out into the bay!
We also checked out the infinity pool that overlooks the water but sadly forgot to bring our suits. This is for sure on the itinerary for our next stay!
Not only were we impressed by the design, decor and views, but every employee was so kind and very helpful which goes a long way for me- (if you’re new here, I worked in a Las Vegas hotel for almost 9 years!). I love the support of so many local Tampa Bay businesses and artists too! We truly had an amazing staycation at The CURRENT Hotel and can not wait to book another stay. Like SOON! This time we’re going to bring some friends and make it a party on the rooftop! Who wants to join?
